Dave Bremer's Biography john hume performing arts

Dave Bremer was born many years ago in a log cabin in the backwoods of Kentucky (Actually, Los Angeles). He had two parents, one of each. His parents said “We’re going to have babies until we get one that’s perfect” so Dave is an only child.

Dave began his infatuation with theater while sill in high school however the stone tablet scripts were as Dave says “Heavy, man. Heavy!” Dave did one production post high school at a brand new, un-named theater at Cerritos Junior College (as it was known in the dark ages) and toured the “Elves and the Shoemaker” production all over Los Angeles County. One of the schools the show played was Rio Hondo Elementary School in Downey. Dave marveled at the extensive lighting and stage equipment and could only wonder why they had such stuff.

The draft ended his college efforts and following his two years of active duty in the United States Army, Dave went to work for Pacific Telephone and Telegraph Company (Yup! We still had telegraph lines in those days). He had given up the thought of returning to the theatre world having discovered girls, however a close friend persuaded Dave to go to an audition at a new theatre in Downey. Dave was never an actor but wanted to see the technical marvels of this “state of the art” facility. Dave began his training as “third assistant nail holder” and worked his way through the ranks to become proficient in all aspects of technical theatre, specializing in sound reinforcement.  Dave participated in Downey Children’s Theatre, Downey Teen Theatre, Downey Theatre Guild, and Downey Civic Light Opera productions. At various times he was even persuaded to get onstage in minor roles.

One such minor role became one of the most successful productions of the Downey Civic Light Opera. “A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum” played the usual three weeks at Downey then went on to another theatre for almost six months until exhaustion caused most of the original cast to “retire”.

Dave still works for AT&T and lives in Fontana with his wife Tina and two sons, Travis and Daniel.
